  1. Hi everyone, im about to start going to the gym again after a bit of time off for summer ready for next season. I’d say the area I really need to work on is my explosive power in my legs. I’m certainly not springy at the moment and don’t feel I have it in me to outjump taller players at set pieces or power off for a finger tip save. So was just wondering if anyone knew any info about how to improve this in the gym? I’ve got access to weights, Olympic rack, plyo box, stair climber, skill mill, and resistance machines etc was just wondering how many reps and sets to do, what percentage of 1RM to be working at and frequency really. Thanks for any help!
  2. Not sure if anybody's heard it but there's now a podcast dedicated to goalkeeping with Lloyd Griffith off of Soccer AM and David Preece on iTunes. They analyse the weekends goalkeeper performances and talk about gloves, any big topics of the week etc. Its weekly and a really good listen, would highly recommend!
  3. What got you into goalkeeping?

Started some training at about 6 years old and we got split into 3 teams at age 7 to be entered into an under 8's league. My dad was our manager and he asked if anybody wanted to go in goal and after a slight hesitation I was the only one to raise my hand!! Never looked back since and I can't even begin to imagine myself outfield, I just love the position haha. My dad was always a goalkeeper and I used to watch him when I was younger so I reckon that's why I wanted to do it!
  4. Your Strengths & Weaknesses

I'd say my strengths are 1v1's, handling and claiming most high balls whereas my weaknesses are my kicking, speed and corners as I struggle to assess the flight of the ball and any curve and my mental strength...but I'm working on that!
  5. Getting a bit fed up at the moment because I keep making simple mistakes. In training I always play to my best standard i'd say and when it comes to games I just make silly judgements, things that I wouldn't dream of doing in training. For example in last 2 seasons I've: Gone out to head ball clear, hesitated and thought id let it run into the box to handle it...misjudged the bounce and its gone over me and striker got on it and had open goal, called safe only for shot to go in come out for a couple crosses I'm never gone reach saved a shot with my foot when really all it needed was a step and a scoop... rebound went in to strikers feet and goal dropped a collapsing dive at strikers feet spilt a shot and let a shot under me It's got to the point now that I fear I'm going to make a mistake in each match. I know a few keepers are kind of renowned for having a silly mistake in them and just wonder how to overcome this because I worry it's holding me back.
  6. I know this sounds weird but I remember reading somewhere once about using a small bag like a fruit bag on the palms between each use to preserve them? Anyone know anymore on this?!
