Dale Roberts, Rushden and Diamonds keeper dies

Recommended Posts

Condolences to the family of goalkeeper Dale Roberts who reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday 14th December at his home in Rushden. Below is from the Independent -

A spokeswoman said the cause of death was given as asphyxia.

Northamptonshire Police previously said the Rushden and Diamonds goalkeeper's death is not being treated as suspicious.

On Wednesday, his fiancee and parents spoke of their devastation.

Fiancee Lindsey Cowan described the 24-year-old as "my childhood sweetheart and the love of my life".

In a separate statement, the footballer's parents, Isabelle and George Roberts, said Lindsey and the England-C goalkeeper had been very happy together.

Mr and Mrs Roberts added: "We are grieving for our wonderful son Dale. We are devastated by his death and we would ask the media to allow us to grieve in private."

In her statement, Miss Cowan said: "We had been together since a young age and I will never get over his death.

"I can only ask the media to allow me to grieve peacefully and leave me alone at this very, very difficult time."

Rushden and Diamonds' FA Trophy replay against Eastwood Town earlier this week was postponed in the wake of the tragedy and tomorrow's Football Conference clash against Eastbourne Borough has also been called off.

What can you say. It is very difficult to imagine what he must have been going through. RIP.

Met Dale last June at The Grassroots Football Show when presenting him with the Goalkeeper of the Year Award and found him to be a smashing lad, and obviously one with a lot of ability. So sorry to read about his death, and sincere condolences to all his family from all at Altrincham FC.

Rest In Peace, Sir.

I saw this on Sky Sports News and was shocked, although i am not a RDFC fan, my greatest sympathy goes to his family, friends and football club.

It's times like these when football doesn't matter atall.

Rest in Peace.
