What got you into goalkeeping?

Recommended Posts

Back on topic, I was at school and a lot of the others had gotten into football, i was asked to play, i dint have a clue what was going on, they stuck me in goal. i had a bunch of kids running at me, with the front one with the ball. next thing i knew i was looking at the sky........the striker had taken a shot and it had hit me on the head, knocking me over. but i had saved it and everyone was saying well done.......i was hooked from there inwards.

I agree he was past his prime, and at times he should of held stuff better but back then you also had the luxury of a back pass. But I think he had a good tournament(looked his age on the West Germany free kick and made a mistake against italy)

That said, he was 40 playing in a world cup and got to the semi final. I thought Zenga was the best keeper of the tournament, and I would put Shilton second.

Funnily enough, i didn't rate Zenga at all. he had a great defence in front of him and was a bit of a flash git with his porn chain and greasy hair. Loved the camera saves.

  • Started some training at about 6 years old and we got split into 3 teams at age 7 to be entered into an under 8's league. My dad was our manager and he asked if anybody wanted to go in goal and after a slight hesitation I was the only one to raise my hand!! Never looked back since and I can't even begin to imagine myself outfield, I just love the position haha. My dad was always a goalkeeper and I used to watch him when I was younger so I reckon that's why I wanted to do it!

Was always a midfield player either playing at 6 or 10, up until 8/9 years old, playing at a high level here in Australia. I think being Spainish and after watching Iker Casillas in our 2010 World Cup win, I had to give playing in goal a try. Fast forward 8 years and I've just turned 16 and signed a contract with a professional club in Australia! :)
