Out of interest mate. How many pairs of gloves do you own? Going from the thread you seem to have a new pair every game lol

I have about 4 which I rotate as well as a few pairs i've worn in years gone by that I loved but cannot be worn for game etc.

Too many. Lol.

The trouble is I earn well and I like to try out different brands, cuts, latexes etc. I should probably stick to a pair of gloves at some point shouldn't I?!

A well fought and hard earned 2-1 victory today against Team H now means having reached 20 points this season objective number one of not being relegated has been achieved, as today's opponents now cannot get more than 18 points, and so we cannot finish any lower than third bottom (bottom 2 relegated!).

It was a pretty end to end game with little in the way of magic moments. We went 1 up after Lee our Centre Forward tried to lob their keeper and the ball dropped short of the goal line only for Mike to be following in to tap into an empty net from about 2 yards out.

We conceded quite soon after though, and I am starting to think a clean sheet just isn't going to happen this season. A little dink into the box from our right hand side saw Harry our Left Back go for the ball, but instead of clearing it he let it bounce, and of course it bounced straight over him to their man stood 10 yards out, central to the goal, unmarked to smash it back across me. And other than that they didn't have another meaningful attempt on goal.

Second half we dominated early and hit the bar twice, finally a break through with about 15 minutes and the game opening up, a dirty foul on Josh, Lee curling the free kick in from 25 yards completely wrong footing their keeper. One thing that did please me today was our focus and determination in the last 5-10 minutes. Too often we have dropped points this season from losing focus or poor game management. We were resolute, and apart from a few gathers and catching a cross we saw the game out.

Weirdly my kicking first 15 minutes or so was fucking atrocious, not really sure why. After that though it massively improved once I found my rhythm. A fine result and having told the manager after last week we should switch to our Amber & Black Away kit as the home kit, we won again in it (Used 5 times, Won 4, Drawn 1) we will now use it for the remainder of the season where we can. Tough game against Sporting Santos next week, we lost 5-3 to them opening day and then 8-0 in the Surrey Cup quarter final a little over a month ago. They are a decent team but I don't think they are THAT much better than us and we owe them now especially as they seem to be a bunch of cocky, smug cockwombles!

I know given the score it may be hard to answer. But how were the Reusch gloves?

They look really nice and comfy, but i'm worried with my history of finger injuries they wont provide enough stopping power and protection.

Will do a match review a bit later but just wanted to touch on these gloves again. I was going to wear them today as the pitch was dry (R3 - check), there was a chance of rain (AX2 - check) and obviously the main latex is G3, but after my warm up I decided to go with my Orange Prisma Pro G3s.

I don't know what it is with the G3 Fusion and the Uhlsport Supergrip for me, but I have to be honest, and say for me personally they just do not work. Both latexes as soon as they get a bit of dirt on them, and today it was dry and dusty, you just cannot grip the ball. I had to wet my Reusch today after every time I caught the ball or dived on the ground.

I would expect a lot more from both brands / "high end latexes" for the price you pay. If you have the choice of either of these or the Reusch G3 / Uhlsport Absolutgrip, the G3 / AG win hands down every time for me.

It's just a gimmick and I guess there is a reason why you don't see a lot of the pros wearing a glove with Fusion or Supergrip palms.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,

An interesting game today against a tough opposition who beat us 8-0 in the Surrey Cup about 6 weeks ago. Plus we had a vastly weakened team, so I didn't hold out much hope.

However the opposition turned up with just 10 men (which I didn't even realise until about an hour into the game!), but they are still a very good side and last time we played ten men we lost 5-3. Anyway we started strong and went after them, a long throw from Lee filling in at CM today found it's way through to Del who volleyed in to put us 1 up. First half was pretty even, then they got a soft FK on our left, their very good Left Mid whipped it in left footed, I went to catch the ball, and somehow my right foot sort of scuffed the ground as I shuffled right, and desperate to get something on it I punched the ball straight up in the air and stumbled back into the net. One of their players lost his marker and had a simple nod in from a yard out, bloody annoying.

Second half we started a bit slow and we let their striker in who tried to curl one top corner. I got a strong hand to it and got across my goal to block a follow up with my shins. Also had to make a couple of saves from long range shots, then their striker got in again one on one, I was quick off my line and as he tried to poke it past me I blocked with my leg. And a final chance fell to their Left Mid who got in around the back and I blocked a hard drilled shot with my hands.

We had a few chances of our own including a clearance off the line and their keeper with a very good sprawling save. 1-1 a fair result and if you had offered me a point before the game with the team we had out, I would have taken it. Another valuable point, and hopefully helps pur push to finish 7th (top of the bottom half of the table), yet again having spoken to our manager a few weeks ago we remain unbeaten in the Amber and Black kit (Red originally our home kit), Played 6, Won 4, Drawn 2 in the Amber.

Random but in 23 years (20 if you take out the 3 years I have missed), I think this is the first time I have ever worn a Purple Goalkeeper kit. 😲

I think you maybe right. Very few pro's wear the supergrip or G3 fusion. Ive tried the supergrip and was very disappointed. Especially given the cost of the gloves.

Now days I try to sick with a good giga grip or a wet weather latex. I really like the adhesion ultra latex used on the top lines of the sells gloves! not the most tacky but I find its very very dependable. I have a pair of the rolls and they are great, just cant justify the cost of buying sells.

How is the G3 grip itself? Would you compare it to say a contact latex?

The G3 is a funny one really. It is deceptive in that when you get it dirty, to the touch it doesn't feel very tacky or grippy. But as soon as you go to catch the ball, it sticks honest and true. Plus I think it is very well padded (admittedly I am using the Duo palms though!).

Is it like a Contact Latex? I would say that is probably the best comparison really. It's not really like the Adidas URG latex and it's not really like the Uhlsport Absolutgrip, so I guess best way to describe it is as a softer form of Contact.

I've just picked up the new Handanovic gloves so I am intrigued to see how the plain G3 palm works out compared to the G3 Fusion on that type of lightweight glove.

So we are 8th at the moment, given how up and down this season has been I would definitely settle for 7th (top of the bottom half), which is well within our reach as we have a game in hand on Thames Ditton and still have to play them too.

Santos should in theory climb up to around the top 2 or 3 if they win their games in hand.

Won 2-0 today. I can't really say too much as I basically had bugger all to do for most of the game. No actual save of note, just sweeping up and kicking which was all competent. 10 of our 24 points this season have come in our last 4 games now and we are nearing our objective now of finishing 7th (top of the bottom half).

And finally a first clean sheet of the season after several missed opportunities. Tough game next week against Fourth place Alexandra United Irons who we drew with (should have won!) Away, and beat twice in the Surrey and League Cups, so they will definitely be gunning for us next week.

I am sure Alexandra United Irons won't care how the 3 points come but for 40 minutes today we held them at bay with a bare 11 that included our 63 year old manager playing, they got two quick goals before half time and then 3 minutes into the second half one of our players dons who was 2 started kicking off and he had to go off so we basically played the whole second half with ten men and lost 0-6 in the end. Bit of a shame as with a full team we would have given them a game and the scoreline really flattered them.

First half I had a few little saves to make and I had one big save second half that players from both teams were raving about, the ball across the box fell to their man about 6 yards out, going to my right he hit it to my left and I somehow dived back across and clawed it out with my left hand. No real chance with any of their goals either, just poor defending in an unusual for us 3-5-2 formation or effectively 3-4-2 second half.

First goal was from a corner on our left, for some reason the man on our left post left the post, free header six yards out that I got a hand to but the power beat me, if the man on the post was there he'd have blocked it. 0-1.

Second goal we failed to stop them down our left, no one blocked the cross and from 10 yards out unmarked their man flicked it into the far bottom corner. 0-2.

Third goal was from a long throw on our left (can you see the pattern emerging now?), somehow about 10 yards out their CB beat FOUR of our players around him to the ball to again flick it into the far bottom corner.

Fourth goal, you guessed it from our left, crossed in, ball fell to their striker 8 yards out, unmarked to turn and roll it bottom corner.

Fifth goal was a penalty which I went the wrong way. And Sixth goal came down our right, worked the ball into the box and their player looked to cross it back stick but then curled it top far corner out of my reach.

I think on the whole we acquitted ourselves ok, just a shame we could barely field a team. Went with my Nike boots I previously used on 4G as the pitch was so hard and I have to say I won't be using them again, my kicking was dreadful today. Next week we face Kingston Boys, win that and we consolidate 8th. 7th is in our hands if we win 2 of our 3 remaining games.

So we are 8th, and we play 9th next week. We then play Thames Ditton who are 7th and we have 2 games in hand on them, before rounding our season off against SCR Reserves on the 12th May.

This was what we played today (3-5-2):

GK

RCB - Usually a RB

CB

LCB - A CM who has been covering LB since Feb

RWB - Usually our RM

CM

CM

CM

LWB - Usually a CM

CF

CF - Our 63 year old manager.

We had four CBs out, one injured, one working and two on holiday, our proper LB has been injured since February, our Left Mid said he was 50/50 then never actually said he wasn't coming, and another striker who always blows out, and he called it in about 10 last night that his daughter was ill.

I find it's amazing how much of a difference a change in defense can make to a keeper! I find my confidence just drains when my team has a certain couple of CB's playing. The kinda guys who dart forward to press high but refuse to track back and expect me to come flying out to sort out every single ball over the top.

I'd consider myself a more traditional/old fashioned goalkeeper who doesn't come flying out or look to have the ball at my feet so expect the CB's to do more work in that regard. I think alot of defenders hide behind a keeper and look to make him a scapegoat for their laziness or inability to sort out issues in defense.

I wasn't too fazed by it to be honest, I knew with the team we had it would be a struggle and I am surprised we kept it at 0-0 until the 40th minute.

The LCB kept trying to go on runs up the pitch and had to be told to come back by both me and the main CB several times. 🤣

I don't mind playing with my feet, don't get me wrong I'm not exactly Ederson or Manuel Neuer but I'm comfortable with the ball coming back to me, in fact yesterday was quite infuriating as I called for the ball back from Vaughan (the actual CB) several times and he kept hooking it out of play for throw ins. Bare in mind 1. I was the easier option anyway, and 2. The team we were playing have an expert long throw specialist. 🤦‍♂️

The trouble yesterday was he was the only true CB and whilst he is a very good player, he's not what I would call a leader and you could tell that, as there was more than a few moments of blind panic between him, the other guys playing CB and the Centre Mids. Also a few times I called for balls to be nodded back to me for an easy gather and he kept hooking those out for throws too. Good player, but not sure the brain is always engaged. 😁

Funny old game today which we won 2-1 and really should have been more comfortable. It was 0-0 at half time, having missed a penalty and it took us a good 70 minutes to finally make the breakthrough only to almost throw it away with sheer fuckwittery defending.

I had almost nothing to do apart from gather loose balls for most of the game. Their goal was a crap clearance from us after our Centre Back was trying to shield it out for a goal kick and got dispossessed, the clearance out to midfield was hooked back towards our area. I was stood between my 6 yard box and penalty spot, our other Centre Back and a Centre Mid both left the ball to one another and it bounced straight over them. Now stuck in no man's land with their player basically one on one he lifted it over me. One of those if he put anymore on it, it would have flown over the bar, any less and it would have come straight to me, but it just had enough on it that even shuffling back it dropped over me and into the net.

We scored soon after to go back in the lead and my only "save" was their player shooting straight from the resulting kick off, which I caught with ease. We saw the game out for 3 points, up to seventh in the league and we play Thames Ditton next Sunday who are the only team who can stop us finishing 7th now. We will need to play a lot better though otherwise we will lose next week.

Oh and we had a bare 11 again. Thankfully only 2 games left, as we seem to be running a bit thin on the ground for players now.

Kit: First Half, All Black Sevilla Nike goalkeeper kit, Second half Orange Nike goalkeeper shirt with same shorts and socks, the referees assessor who was at the game apparently moaned at the referee and our manager that my kit clashed with the opposition. 🙄

Not sure what is going on with our game this coming Sunday. I am sure Thames Ditton will want to play it as they would likely want to finish above us, however the goals have been taken down at their pitch and the only pitch they can find available is from 12:00 onwards.

We can field a team for a 10:30 kick off but not 12:00, and I don't really see why we should be punished with a loss considering we can field a team at the actual time the game should be played, so we shall see how this pans out.

Today went exactly as I expected, turned up with a bare 11 again, which included our 63 year old manager, a player who was injured but said he would come so we could field a team and our starting Left Back playing his first game back from injury after 3 months out, not to mention one of our players turned up 4 minutes before kick off.

We lost 6-1 but there is no way over two games this team are 10-2 better than us. We started slow again and were punished again. First goal came from down our left, a low cross was met by their forward about 7 yards out who hit it first time, it must have literally just missed my left hand.

Second goal the ball was played through, I came out and the guy scuffed a horrible bubbly shot, I got across to it as it kicked up, and my palm on it put it out to their forward who was the only player following in.

Third goal was typical us, a corner from our left, and an unmarked header across goal into the far bottom corner, for some reason the man on the post had disappeared.

Fourth goal was a shot from the right, I dived to my left as it took a massive deflection off my RB's stomach and in, to my right.

Fifth goal we gave them all the time in the world and their striker curled it far top corner. It was one of those I got across the goal and thought I've got this and as I was diving through the air I could just see the ball moving further and further away from me.

That was half time 5-0.

Second half we conceded early again, same player again unmarked just inside the top right corner of our box, took a touch and curled it far top corner. We got a consolation and played a lot better second half but I think everyone is drained now and just wants the season to end so we can recharge our batteries, get a consistent team out next season and go again.

Final game of the season today and we put in a good display / performance, much better than last week anyway against a strong SCR Reserves side who have just won the League Charity Cup and look set to be promoted again this season.

First half was mainly them bombarding us particularly with long throws but we kept them out and although I didn't have any saves to make really I swept up well and we knocked the ball about well at the back. Only real incident was a long punt into our box, my CB Jay and I crowded out their forward, I got the ball away from him and as I went to gather the loose second ball, their striker tried to kick my legs out from under me. The ref didn't see it, and I pulled the player up on it and he gave me some flannel about he was looking up at the ball. There is a massive difference between a tangle of legs and someone deliberately kicking you.

Second half we kept them at bay well for about the first 15-20 minutes, then disaster struck. A simple ball to our CM Gabi, who just had to play a simple pass, but no went for a wonder through ball and passed it straight to one of their players who picked out a pass to their top scorer, who cut in from our right, embarrassed our RB, dummied Jay, then rolled it low to my right as I stepped left. 0-1.

The second goal wasn't long coming, against crappy play from us saw possession given up easily, Kieron the RB again beaten softly to a 50/50 and their tubby old forward raced into the box and drilled it low into the bottom corner. 0-2. I think I could have done better with this one, think I made his mind up for him a bit.

We huffed and puffed but with no recognised striker in the team we struggled to test their keeper. Dare I say it if we did have a forward this might have been a different game. Trying to get back into it I started taking Free Kicks further and further up the pitch, even venturing into their half at one point, but again the flick ons came to nothing.

Did make one smart one on one stop late on, basically what I should have done with the second goal. Then disaster, virtually the last kick of the game, Jay had the ball top left of our 18 yard box, I called him to lay it back as he had no options, instead of playing the ball to me he laid it virtually square, about 10 yards in front of me to their top scorer who ran in and knocked it past me as I tried to narrow the angle and 0-3 game over.

We definitely gave a better account of ourselves this week against a better opponent too. I see positives for next season, but reliability has been a huge issue this season and it would be nice to get a consistent team out most weeks which would probably make things easier and performances better. Now for 6 weeks of rest before we start pre season, to be honest I am already dreading it and don't know what to do with myself on Sunday mornings now.
