School Football Team Trial Match Review
18 September 2012 - 07:36 PM
Hey fellow goalkeepers, today I had trials for the school football team and I thought I may as well share with you guys how it all went. I'm just going to do a quick review of each match and then at the end I am going to rate how I did distribution wise, handling wise etc. I will also say how my gloves managed to hold up throughout the games.
1st MATCH
The first match was the one I felt most pressured by, we were against one of the best teams out of the 4 randomly picked teams and our manager was watching this game. We started off rather well, we kept the ball rather well but we couldn't find that killer finish. I made a few saves where the ball was smashed low, my gloves seemed grippy so far as nothing was going astray. I had to make a quick reaction save in this game which was from close range, I parried it out for a corner. All the crosses were going in my hands or were being dealt with well by my defenders. We managed to score 2 quickfire goals which relieved the pressure a bit, they didn't seem to attack with as much vigour after that and most things were easy enough to deal with. We won 2-0!!!
2nd MATCH
The second game was similar, but we were getting put on the back foot too many times so my saves had to count a lot. Most things were staying in my hands and my defence were clearing the balls that I parried away to the wings. We scored first but they managed to bring one back, it was a harsh goal as it skimmed the blade of one of my defenders boots and it changed direction completely. They then started to go all over us and I conceded another which was a goal which I doubted many would have saved. An absolute pile driver from close range, impossible :'( Nothing much happened else during the match, I was just claiming through balls and the crosses that came in.
3rd MATCH
This opposition were the ones that were probably the best attacking wise, they had a really talented striker who is renowned for his cool finishing. My defence managed to keep solid and I was yet again making standard saves and saving one on one's. At times my defence lost its shape and they would managed to creep in a stuffy goal, but I was still impressed with my performance as I kept us in it many a time and we managed to draw in the end.
FINAL MATCH
Not a HUGE need to comment on this match as it didn't last very long and I had nothing to do, bar a one on one which a ran out for and claimed. It was freezing anyway and I wanted to go in and have a drink so I didn't mind!
Final Review
Overall I think I had a great few games, our coach was praising my abilities and my decision making and he said I played really well after the games had finished.I don't know if I am on the team yet (I have high hopes though
) the decision will be made by next week, I will tell you guys when it has been made though!
Ratings!
Distribution (throwing, kicking, goal kicks) - 3.5/5 - Could have been better, my throwing was good though.
Handling - 4/5 - My handling was good today and I never felt less than confident when being called upon.
Communication - 5/5 I was calling everything today, I was very vocal and I think my team performed very well thanks to it.
Diving and Saving - 4/5 - I did my job.
Coming out for crosses - 4/5 - Again, pretty much everything stuck to my hands so my rating goes up.
One on ones - 3.5/5 - I claimed 90% of the one on ones but I nearly got rounded but he took a poor touch and ran off the pitch.
Decision making - 4.5/5 - I think I made all the correct decisions today despite nearly getting rounded!
THANK YOU FOR READING, ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR TIPS ON MAKING MATCH REPORTS BETTER. Thanks a lot.

Russian Goalkeepers
28 May 2012 - 01:34 PM
Haven't you noticed that over the years the Russians have had quite a few good keepers?
Lev Yashin is obviously one of the all time goalkeeping greats.
Rinat Dasaev, from what I've seen, (youtube
) was a quality keeper.
As is the young Igor Akinfeev.
Anymore? Do you disagree with me? Discuss
